But what if you could take this beloved flavour and transform it into light and fluffy whipped cream to accompany all sorts of drinks and desserts? Your whipped cream siphon is a handy tool that allows you to create restaurant-quality whipped cream in minutes.
It will help you whip up batches of salted caramel without the hassle of complicated techniques. We have put together two basic recipes because there’s more than one way to achieve caramel whipped cream and more than one option for adding salt to the batch.
Find out which one tastes better (we can’t decide…)
Salted Caramel Whipped Cream – Option #1 – Simple Homemade Caramel Sauce
For an extra touch of customization, you can make your own caramel sauce. It’s surprisingly easy! Here is a link to the recipe that we tested out.
All you need is sugar, vanilla, butter, and a touch of cream and water. But let’s concentrate on the whipped cream.
If you don’t want to be bothered with homemade caramel sauce, you can (of course!) use the store-bought kind.
Creating Caramel Whipped Cream:
Now for the fun part! Here’s how to turn your homemade caramel sauce into a delightful whipped cream:
- Prep the Dispenser: Wash and dry your whipped cream dispenser. Add your cooled caramel sauce (around 2 tablespoons) to the dispenser canister.
- Creamy Goodness: Pour in cold heavy cream (around 1 cup) – remember, cold cream whips up faster and lighter.
- Sweet & Salty Balance: Add a pinch of salt to taste. Start with a small amount, as the caramel sauce already has some sweetness.
- Secure & Charge: Screw on the dispenser lid tightly and load an N2O charger into the holder. Secure the charger until you hear a hiss (this is normal).
- Shake it Up!: Give the dispenser a good shake for about 15-20 seconds in an up-and-down motion. This incorporates the N2O and creates a light and fluffy salted caramel whipped cream.
- Let it Rest: Set the dispenser aside for a minute to allow the gas to distribute evenly throughout the cream.
Now, your homemade salted caramel whipped cream is ready to use!
Alert: You can skip the salt and instead add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt as a garnish.
Salted Caramel Whipped Cream – Option #2 – Caramel Syrup and Flaky Sea Salt
This is the quickest fix:
This method is the simplest way to whip up a batch of salted caramel goodness. Here’s why it wins for convenience:
- No Cooking Required: You don’t need to simmer sugar for homemade caramel sauce, which is perfect for those times you crave a quick treat.
- Variety of Flavors: Caramel syrups come in a wide range of flavours, from classic caramel to butterscotch or even salted caramel itself! Explore different options to find your favourite. We especially love the butterscotch option and think it’s the most addictive and rich.
Creating Whipped Cream:
With just a few ingredients, you can have delicious salted caramel whipped cream in no time:
- Prep the Dispenser: As always, wash and dry your dispenser.
- Creamy Base: Pour in cold heavy cream (around 1 cup) – remember, chilled cream creates a lighter texture.
- Flavor Boost: Add your chosen caramel syrup (around 2 tablespoons) to the cream.
- Salty Touch: For that signature sweet and salty balance, sprinkle in a generous pinch of flaky sea salt, or leave the salt to garnish your cream after dispensing.
- Shake & Rest: Screw on the lid tightly, load and secure an N2O charger, and give the dispenser a good shake for 15-20 seconds in an up-and-down motion. Let it rest for a minute for even gas distribution.
Voila! Your quick and easy salted caramel whipped cream is ready to use!
Now, for some perfect pairings:
The art of pairing salted caramel whipped cream
Now that you have your salted caramel whipped cream, the most important question remains: what goes best with it? Here are a few absolutely perfect options for you:
Hot Drinks:
“Just” Coffee: Transform your regular cup of joe into a decadent treat. The rich caramel and touch of salt perfectly complement the coffee’s bitterness, and the whipped cream will dissolve in the black coffee, making it creamy and delicious.
Bonus: this also goes extremely well with Irish Coffee.
Espresso: For a luxurious and creamy finish, add a dollop of salted caramel whipped cream to your espresso. This is called an “espresso con panna.”
Hot Chocolate Heaven: Ditch the plain whipped cream and elevate your hot chocolate with a swirl of salted caramel goodness. The contrasting flavours create a delightful hot beverage experience.
Cold Drinks:
Iced Coffee: Back with coffee – you can also beat the summer heat with an iced coffee topped with salted caramel whipped cream. The cool coffee and light whipped cream create a refreshing treat.
Milkshakes and spiders: Take your milkshakes and spiders to the next level! Add a generous dollop of salted caramel whipped cream for a delicious and unexpected twist on a classic.
Summer cocktails: Salted caramel whipped cream isn’t just for sweet drinks. Try it on top of an espresso martini for a delightful and sophisticated touch.
Classic Desserts
Apple Pie Perfection: The classic apple pie gets a delicious upgrade with a crown of salted caramel whipped cream. The sweet and salty combination perfectly complements the tartness of the apples. We have seen these with a caramel topping – so why not take it a step further?
Ice Cream: Take your ice cream sundaes to the next level with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a generous dollop of salted caramel whipped cream. It’s an explosion of flavour and texture in every bite! Mix and match ice cream flavours and see if this goes better with chocolate, vanilla, rum and raisin – according to the scientific method, you have to try every option a few times before coming to a final conclusion. (Just saying.)
The final bite
With a whipped cream dispenser and a few simple ingredients, you can create restaurant-quality salted caramel whipped cream in minutes.
This versatile topping elevates both hot and cold drinks, desserts and cocktails, transforming them into decadent treats. The possibilities are endless.
Final note: We checked, and salted caramel was created by the French pastry chef Henri Le Roux in 1977. We can’t imagine life before that.
